Who are you?

I’m Maya, a citizen of the world, who has lived on three different continents and in places very different from each other. These experiences have shaped my thinking, making me deeply curious, empathetic and adaptable. I have a strong appreciation for where people come from and the challenges they face.

After spending two years in San Francisco and two years at Stanford University, I fell in love again with New York City, a place that had been my home for 10 years, when I was a Trader on Wall Street. I love NY’s energy and diversity, where you can meet people from a wide range of economic backgrounds, industries, and ways of thinking. I also decided to come back to NY because I was very impressed with the work being done by Otonomi and wanted to be a part of it.

I’m also a mother, an experience that taught me valuable skills, including negotiation, patience and how to get things done efficiently. I don’t like to take myself too seriously, a lesson that has proven to be invaluable in both my personal and professional life. Parenting can be a humbling experience!

How did you change since you started Otonomi

Since joining Otonomi, I have become more fully myself. The company’s culture is accepting and allows me to bring my full self to work. As a result,I became more confident in my abilities and have learned to trust my instincts. My goal for the next two years is to continue to grow with Otonomi, doing what I love, working with my wonderful colleagues and helping the company become an established player in the insurance market.

What is your vision for the company

My vision for Otonomi is to be one of the major players in the parametric space and become established players in Cargo Delay Insurance which is a new category. I want a future where parametric insurance is the norm, and Otonomi is at the forefront of this change. I’d like to see our customers really benefit from our product offerings, which for us would then be reflected in increased revenues and valuation.

What does success look like for the company

Success for the company is making the vision that I just described, a reality!
